Soundman Wins Award of Merit in Best Shorts Film Competition
(Los Angeles, CA, March 30th, 2021) – Soundman, a short film directed by Debi Bradshaw of Oh, Sally Productions, has won a prestigious Award of Merit from The Best Shorts Film Competition. The award was given to Debi Bradshaw’s exciting short narrative film Soundman which was created to showcase the talents of all involved.
Soundman was shot in two days in North Hollywood in Feb 2020, right before the pandemic lockdown. Soundman stars Emily Maya Mills (Orange is the New Black, Key and Peele) as Matilda Hewitt, Ahmed Bharoocha (DreamCorp. LLC, Take My Wife) as Soundman and Neil Flynn (The Middle, Scrubs, Mean Girls) as Dean Wilderman. Soundman tells the story of Matilda Hewitt, a timid ornithology professor who experiences technical difficulties during her PowerPoint presentation, leading to an emotional unraveling and self-discovery in front of an impatient audience.
“I have been impressed by Elizabeth’s Musgrave prolific writing for quite some time and when she showed me the script to Soundman,” explains director Bradshaw. “I immediately connected to its heart and knew we would make an excellent team bringing this beautiful story to life.”
“My whole experience on Soundman was wonderful,” explains Ahmed Bharoocha. “I don’t get the chance very often to do silent comedy and it was such a delight to work with Debi, Emily and the whole cast and crew.”
“The team really brought a beautiful, strange, specific little world to life and made it sing. It was an honor to join them in creating such a heartbreakingly silly film,” Emily Maya Mills describes.
